Independent Speller is a talking keyboard for nonverbal and minimally verbal kids, including autistic children, who know their letters. Your child taps the letters and presses Speak, and the tablet says it out loud. Big keys that never move. Works offline. Nothing leaves the device.

Your child does the typing
The tablet sits on a table or a stand. Your child taps every letter on their own. No one holds the board, and no one guides their hand.
It will not hold back speech
A common worry. Studies of AAC (communication apps and devices), including with autistic children, have found it does not stop speech from developing. Some children spoke more.
Who it fits
Children, teens, and adults who can spell, or are learning to. If your child does not know letters yet, a picture-based app is the better first step. Ask your child's speech therapist.
The keys never move
Letters stay in the same place on every page. Motor planning matters, so the board a person learns is the board they get.
Works offline
The whole app is stored on the device. No account, no sign-in, and no internet needed once it is installed.
Your words stay on your device
No cloud, no server, no analytics. Messages and the log never leave the phone or tablet unless you send them yourself.
A record of what was said
Spoken messages are saved privately on the device with the date and time. Export a transcript when you need one.
