Short version: Independent Speller does not collect what you type. Messages stay on your own device.
The App Store app has no account, no sign-in, no analytics, and no advertising. The developer cannot see anything you type.
If you unlock the web board with a one-device use code, we store only that the code was used, an anonymous device id, and the time. That is so the same code cannot be used on a second device. We do not store your messages, settings, or contacts on a server.
The app saves the following in your device's local storage, so it is there next time you open it:
This information never leaves your device unless you deliberately send it yourself, as described below.
If you use the send feature, the app prepares a message containing the day's notes and hands it to your own email app. You decide whether to send it and to whom. Independent Speller does not transmit it, does not receive a copy, and has no server involved at any point.
Spoken output uses the text-to-speech built into your device or browser. Your device manufacturer's own privacy policy governs that feature. Independent Speller does not record audio and does not use the microphone.
Independent Speller is a communication aid intended to be used with the support of a parent, caregiver or professional. Because the app collects no data and transmits nothing, no personal information about a child is gathered, stored remotely, or shared.
You can clear the message log at any time from the Log screen inside the app. Uninstalling the app, or clearing your browser's site data, permanently removes everything the app has stored. Because nothing is held on a server, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.
